An easy day in Isa

An early breakfast today at the Irish Club again, curried, savoury, chilli and spicy mince on toast with eggs, baked beans, hash browns, bacon, a tomato and three coffees after some muesli all a highlight.  There was a ride to the Norther Territory border organised at the Rally but frankly an 8am start for that was not on the cards for me.  They also had indicated that the border run participants wouldn't return in time to watch or participate in the Gymkhana that I was keen to at least see and had thoughts of having a crack at.

A bit out of sorts I decided to go shopping for some shampoo, microfibre rags and degreaser for the Harley to have a serious go at the dissapointing result of the carwash effort yesterday afternoon.  Others in the group thought I was a little mad but frankly I found it very relaxing spending a couple of hours on it and a little more keen to take it back to the rally clean.  My cousin intended to clean his bike to but early on discovered that there was very little holding his exhaust system on so a trip to the Mt Isa dealer to buy some nuts and a fair bit of frigging around trying to get them on kept his bike in it's semi clean state.

That done and lunch time looming it was time to head over the the Rally where they had a very interesting "Top Gun" event running.  Essentially a fixed number of entrants had to exhibit riding skills in a number of events and the one that gained most points over all the events won the title.  I thought if I were to have any hope in a Gymkhana I had a lot of practice to do but either was I was at that time leaning towards having a crack at it.

I had a quick business meeting at the club near the rally grounds to go to so I left the group and returned after that to see the final bits of the Top Gun and then a break before the Gymkhana was announced.  The timing though was unfortunate for many of the group as the timing would not have allowed us to finish the event and get back to the Irish Club in time to utilise the shuttle transport back to tonight's function.  Oh well, next time.  So back we went to get cleaned up, have a couple of quiet ones and soon enough we were at the Townies Club for a meal and some more live entertainment.  Another great night, you had to be there.

Once again on our return a few of us ended up in the Irish Club rather than our rooms and after that I spent some time sharing old family gossip with my cousin over a bottle of Baileys in one of the outside common areas of our accommodation.  Despite it being winter the weather, even at night, at Mt Isa was surprisingly mild.

After an hour or so we pulled up stumps and headed off looking forward to tomorrow's Thunder Ride.
