First Fuel and First 100+km Ride

Date:
By Wom Battle

Saturday morning 7am, not a cloud in the sky.  Off for a quick 5k walk with my wife to debrief the week and a couple of clouds start to appear, but I'm really excited by the beautiful morning and the prospect of getting out on the Road King.  I had a couple of things to drop off and by 9am the couple of clouds had closed in to a threatening mass of heavy grey mongrels ready to drop their load.

I was riding today no matter what so I got ready to leave, my son organised himself and away we went (my wife was shaking her head in disbelief).  300m up the road some rain drops started to fall.  I finally needed to get some fuel, so straight to the servo and I put $15.06 of Premium Unleaded into it.  Rain was still about, I turned to my son and said "What do you reckon?".  He said, "I don't know".  Home wasn't an option so we headed south because there was one spec of blue sky in that direction, and every other direction was black!

The determination paid off.  The dark clouds gave way to sunshine as we rode.  Recent hard rain was apparent by the wetness of the road in parts, but not a drop fell on us on the 50k or so we road south.  Things looked like closing in ahead so a right turn and west we went. Another right and after a while we were heading north on the Freeway at a very pleasant 110kph, shining and smiling like Cheshire cats. My confidence on and in the bike was building and it was very relaxing. even riding through hillbillyville.

I noted that my son had finally relaxed enough to let go and I saw him waving his hands around  and playing in the air rushing past.  I guess he got tired of reading the back of my helmet.  After an hour of non stop riding, I was still completely comfortable, no sign of soreness in shoulders, back or butt, so the riding position has proven good for me (yeah I know an hour's three fifths of sfa but it's the furthest I've been in a while).  I'm liking the bike more and more.

Another right onto the link road and back home.  The boy mentioned some soreness of seat and I was pleased to stand and stretch but I was

A few drops were still apparent close to home, must be the only place it rained!  Total for the trip about 125ks and back in time for a trip to the Roy's cafe for a Machiatto and some passionfruit slice with my wife before the "responsible" portion of the weekend kicks in.
