Today was the 2010 Newcastle Bikers Toy Run organised by Big John to collect toys and raise money for the Salvation Army to use to make Christmas better for the needy.  My eldest daughter was very keen to go, this year my Harley-Davidson® Road King® was nice and clean, the weather fine,  so we were good to go.

Before picking up the Harley-Davidson we went to K-Mart to purchase an appropriate gift and after an unplanned trip back home to pick up a camera we made our way to the Sandgate Fruit Markets, the traditional start point to the Toy Run. We parked with other members of the local HOG Chapter and had a nice social time as the temperature of the day rose.

Soon enough though the motorcyles around us roared into life and it seemed like time to leave.  We entered a large queue of assorted motorcycles, scooters, postie bikes, some decorated, some not, some with trailers full of toys and many with bears and other assorted stuffed toys strapped to various parts of them.  The queue wasn't moving though, and after nearly 10 minutes of my air cooled engine getting hotter and hotter to the point the rear cylinder stopped firing, a feature of the 2009 Road King in order to keep the "under nut" temp down I turned the Harley off in order to preserve the bike and my disconnected manhood.

Another 10 minutes or so elapsed, with the heat increasing there was some frustration in the air but soon after there was some movement up front and we were away, the false start forgotten. This is my third Toy Run, it's always great to see the number of people who line the roads to witness the spectacle.  I could hear my daughter squealing and see her waiving, clearly enjoying the experience.

We rode from Sandgate, through Mayfiled, into Hunter Street West and then turned left into Merewether Street for a ride adjacent to the Harbour finishing in the usual place.  The change in the route was a definite improvement in terms of the congestion that occurred in Scott Street in previous years, good job guys!

The party was on, traditional long lines for hot food, cold drinks, ride patches and to deposit gifts on the growing mountain of toys in front of the stage.  My daughter and I spent about an hour looking around, chatting and with the day getting hotter still left for home both of us having enjoyed the morning out.

G'day mate. Chriso here once again. Looks like it's time to get yourself one of these fan kits that I was telling you about for your oil cooler. I got one for my bike. Here's the link - http://bigskyfan.tripod.com/id10.html I recommend the Automatic kit for Twin Cam. Let me know when you get it & I'll help you fit & wire it up. It's a pretty easy job. Just don't go paying someone big bucks to do it when we can do it ourselves for nix. Cheers, Chriso

Thank Chriso. Won't need it this weekend St Mount Buller!
