Ride to Canberra

A happy group of us left the BP at Beresfield right on time today for an easy 420k stroll down the freeway to Canberra for the NSW HOG Chapter Challenge which is to start tomorrow.  We had all day to get there so there was no hurry, it was a sit back and relax atmosphere with time to enjoy the scenery and dodge the lunatics in tin boxes.

The first planned stop for fuel was the Shell on Pennant Hills Road, it's nice to have a couple of Sporties along, the derriere doesn't have time to get sore :-).  My Road King didn't need fuel, but I did, so with a quick can of Red Bull disposed of we were off again heading for lunch at Pheasant's Nest.  I was lined up behind another of the group giving consideration to getting fuel there but a rather rude person in a tin box decided that my hesitation to push my bike forward to the pump was an invitation for him to drive past me and back up to it.  Usually a very polite person I was very surprised at my comment to him.  Fortunately I had sufficient fuel to get the the next stop and my priority at that time was to make friends with a chicken burger.

Our bikes attracted plenty of attention while we were stopped there, lots of people wanting to chat to us which is always a nice thing.  We weren't in any rush to get away to the next stop at the BP Marulan for a quick rest and fuel for a few of us, including me this time.

We arrived in Canberra a bit after 2.30pm and soon after we were unpacking the bikes into our accommodation at the Carotel, which we were glad to discover had a reasonably priced and well stocked refreshment fridge and a good selection of appropriate snack food.  There were already quite a few HOG members from other Chapters settled in with lots of smiling, nodding and g'daying happening.

The Challenge Registration time arrived so we made our way up, completed the indemnity, collected our wrist bands and settled in for a night of food off the BBQ and socialising which fortunately didn't go too late because of the earlyish start.

A shortish day in the k's stakes, and an easy ride with divided road most of the way, but it's always great fun to ride with the HOGS.
