I'm not going to go into any real detail about the proceedings at the Rally, you should have been there, but for completeness a description of the day is required. The Irish Club has an arrangement with mining contract firms to provide accommodation and breakfast to contractors which means that it was open from 5am to 8.30am for breakfast. After some minor confusion about what to do because we weren't contractors $10 got each of us all we could eat. Fantastic value and good food.
Then it was time to head into town to the Mt Isa Visitors Centre to register for the rally and kick off a walking Poker Run through the city followed up by visiting the Rally venue to check it out and meet some people. We then went to Biffs, a registered club in town where we were confronted by a paper sign taped to the entry door banning colours, patches on vests and basically everything our group was wearing. Vests off and jackets off eventually we passed muster and walked into the bar feeling the chagrin of the regualars who fortunately soon settled down when it became apparent we weren't there to cause trouble.
After an hour or so we decided to go our separate ways, I went back to the Visitors Centre to pick up my Harley and three of us went hunting for the elusive chinese restaurant for lunch. After lunch a haircut was in order and then to the carwash to have a crack at getting some of the crap that had accumulated and burnt onto the Road King riding the 2000k's plus to get here.
Then it was back to the Irish Club, a few drinks and preparation for the shuttle bus back to the Rally Venue for a night of music and fun. We left about midnight on another shuttle that dropped us back at the Irish Club and made the dodgy decision to head into the Club itself rather than the accommodation. Eventually though we needed to call it a night.
Not much riding done, but as a rest day, pretty good.
