Today is the Day; Great but not Perfect.

Date:
By Wom Battle

The day had arrived, I was to pick up my new second hand 1998 Harley Davidson Road King and take it home.  The $19,000  balance was deposited in the dealer's account, I had a helmet, insurance was organised so over I went about 2pm.  All was ready when I got there so the paperwork was done efficiently, the Harley Davidson had been cleaned and filled with fuel and a new front white walled tyre had been put on it.

I thanked Kevin and off I went, back to the office.  The guys there had heard the stories of my quest for a motorcyle of the last couple of weeks and all were keen to see it and suitably impressed. After work I took it home and gave it a little polish with a soft cloth.  A proud dad!

I decided to have a good look over it to see what was where and one of the first things I did was try the steering lock.  It didn't lock and the key got stuck.  I tried for a while to extricate it with no luck. There was either a problem with it or I was just stupid.  I called the dealer and one of the guys came over.  Fortunately I'm not stupid and the end result was me taking the bike back, less than three hours after taking it home, to the dealer so they could look at it. It was late in the day and the end result was I needed to leave it there and my wife came over to take me home.

Strangely though, I wasn't upset.  I understand that things can go wrong with machines and the dealer assured me that it would be sorted at their cost. It would involve replacing the steering lock and that will happen in the future.  I was away on business the following day, so as long as I could take it home again on Friday whether or not the part had arrived so I could ride it on the weekend, no harm done!

Oh well, I'd had a Harley Davidson for a couple of hours.  I hope I can have it longer next time.
