The decision made to get myself a motorcyle, I had to let my lovely, understanding, caring and sharing wife whom I love very much, know that the long term plan for a bike when I was 50 had been moved forward. I needed a plan, a budget, and a justification that would fly in the face of superior logic.
The budget was the key! My plan for 50 was to go all out and buy the grandest bike I could find. Having in the past always been a straight or V4 Japanese motorcycle enthusiast I had in mind that my next bike would be a Honda Gold Wing. Right now they are about 44k. What I needed to do was buy the bike to ride for three years that was destined to be the bike I bought before I bought the "real one". It didn't have to be new, just something that "would do for now".
The logic went... I'll spend a little chunk now (15k was thrown around) and if I don't use it over the next couple of years then I won't have to waste all that money when I'm 50. Brilliance!! buying a bike now was actually a risk mitigation strategy that could save us a fortune.
The plan.... My wife and I walk quite often and during our walks important matters are discussed. The next walk will be when I bring it up. At least if it goes badly I'll have my exercise gear on and I'll be able to run! Here goes.
