A while back I bought a SPOT Connect (review here) so I could log/track my long distance and Ironbutt Rides on my Harley-Davidson® Road King®. While it had it's moments, a while back between Lithgow and Bathurst it turned off and I couldn't work out why. I've persisted for some time having all sorts of problems keeping it going but it sort of worked when I did my Ironbutt rides to and from Darwin. I got one really good day with it out of five.
However over the last little while on other trips it's just been useless, culminating on a ride I did last weekend where I just gave up on it and thought about chucking it in the bush near Wellington. Thankfully I didn't, but yesterday I shot an email off to SPOT in the US and today managed to find Pivotel Satellites who handle the warranty claims in OZ. The SPOT Connect has a 1 year warranty!!!
Anyhow, it's packaged up, sent to Pivotel and I'm waiting to hear whether they can replicate the issue and decide to send me a new one (they don't fix them). I know one thing though, if it's not replaced I won't be getting another one. If it is replaced, I hope it works better than the current one.
Fingers crossed and I'll let you know.
