I took the Road King back to the BMW dealership today so they could fit the new steering lock. I dropped it off in the morning and left my number so they could ring me to let me know when it was ready. At 4.30pm I rang them, and it was ready. I guess it's a sign of the public's expectation of service that it's no surprise when the call doesn't come and the job's finished.
Anyhow, when I arrived the head mechanic who remembered my name said that everything had gone fine and the lock was working. He then handed me a "spare" ignition lock and two pannier locks. Apparently they come as a set keyed alike. I guess it would have been really nice of them to have fitted all the locks so I wasn't left with a bike that required two keys but on the other hand, the others weren't broken. I guess I'll decide later if I want to get Noel the Harley Guru to change the others once I find out how much that might cost.
Right now though, with the steering lock fixed, I felt happy that I could leave the bike in public without having to worry too much about someone wheeling it away. So with the new rear tyre, battery bracket, new battery on its way the Harley will be back to pristine very soon.
