An overcast day kicked off the epic journey to Perth with a short detour without Harleys to the National HOG Rally in Launceston.First stop today though, Albury.
Heffy arrived on time sans RTA tag and the initial photo opp marred by an uncharged camera. A good start!
First stop was Macas Thornleigh a couple of misty drops of rain on the way, no big deal. While enjoying the double shot flat whites though the heavens erupted and it started to look quite nasty. Ten minutes later the rain had stopped and the unanimous decision that it was too early to be pusses so the wet weather gear remained packed was proven correct, at least for a while.
A few misty patches saw us travel via the M2, M7 and then we were on track to the next stop at Goulburn. Unfortunately though the Southern Highlands decided adding water to the drop in temperature would be fun. Semi drenched and shivering we were warmed by some specks of sun and were only slightly damp by the time we reached the Big Sheep for fuel and some lunch at the nearby bakery. The warming effects of good pies and coffee unmistakable.
The next planned stop was the Dog on the Tuckerbox near Gundagai for a photo op and refuelling. Sunshine all the way there and similar continuing south where the road became less freeway, more highway and lots of roadworks. We were going to ride straight through Holbrook but were surprised by the site of a submarine in a park, so we stopped for a photo and a drink and kept going.
Ettamogah Pub was our next stop, Heffy was in the lead and rode straight past the turnoff (certainlyt a sign of things to come over thr trip with Heffy in the lead) we managed to wheel about and head to the pub for a beer and a good look around. Lot of funny stuff on the walls to read. After a break there we left for the short stint to Albury and the Georgian for the night.
We ate at the Bended Elbow, a British Pub style place. Great steak, reasonably priced and we left just before the karaoke started.
K's travelled, about 750 and other than the roadworks being a little annoying, it was very easy going.
